About Us

We participated in a working group several years ago by invitation from then Supervisor Susan Rose, 2nd District, to find permanent solutions to preserving and protecting Goleta Beach Park for future generations.  This cross section of our community has always had a Mission of protection through non-invasive measures with minimal disruption to our coastline. Through the course of time we have found that there are a few environmental organizations that would rather have our Park be an experiment to a philosophy called "managed retreat" and have now influenced the California Coastal Commission to force our County down this path of distruction.

About Us

Considering the extensive use of the Park and the societal value of its continued use, it is imperative that this treasured environment be saved at the least minimal cost to our county residents. Alternative solutions have been explored and deliberated without consensus as to how to preserve our park with common sense and low cost solutions.  And Goleta Beach 2.0 is a continuation of this experiment to please the non elected officials of the California Coastal Commission. This plan is seriously being considered by our County Superivsors without regard to the long term known impacts of park loss when the next severe Winter storm impacts Goleta Beach Park.

Friends of Goleta Beach Park believe that the measures already implemented in saving our park, should be permitted. While there are numerous alternative solutions for revetments or backstops for protection, the first step is to send a loud and strong voice of concern to all our elected representatives that Goleta Beach 2.0 is the problem, not the solution
